CARICON 2023: The Future is Now!

The beginning of this month was filled with inspiration, community-building, connection with Caribbean ancestry and our roots in Africa. My heart is full.

The weekend began with the inspiring experience of participating in CARICON 2023! It was an honor to interview Dr. Myriam J. A. Chancy, @myriamjachancy, to learn about her journey and novel called "What Storm, What Thunder".

I'm thankful for the opportunity to hear her voice in the reading and discover the nuances of her writing process. May this novel add to the voices inviting us to listen more deeply to each other and heal the African diaspora. There are so many reflections that we’re invited to engage in throughout the novel. While the focus is the earthquake that took place in Haiti in 2010, the experiences of healing, persistence, faith, life, death, love, and more are explored . Once again, the arts come to our rescue!

Given all the healing we’re immersed in, it’s essential to bring as many of us together as possible NOW. The theme of the conference was “The Future is Now”…So fitting! To serve as interviewer of an award-winning author, and also have the opportunity to present a workshop about my book on burnout and wellness, was heartwarming.

I am eternally thankful for the legacy of my ancestors in Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Martinique, and Barbados… We’re here because of you.

Infinite thanks to @cariconla for curating such a wonderful conference.
